Springing into
online facilitation

An empathetic design workshop TO RAMP up your online facilitation

If you are teaching or meeting online, you are competing for your participants' attention with literally the entire internet. Not to mention their phone, every social media platform, and their fax machine, beeper, or Alexa, depending on what generation they’re in. If you try to compete on the internet’s terms -- that is, text, information, moving pictures -- you will fail.

Instead, win with the main thing the internet cannot provide: true human connection. Relationships. interaction and care. Helping people learn about themselves and others through provoking dialogue in real-time. As a meeting facilitator, this is your chance to re-invite your team into their full humanity and motivate them in a new way. While this may sound daunting, we offer a few structures and practices that can actually go a very long way.

We use a deeply relational and interactive facilitation that applies to any meeting with a discussion component.

During this 2.5 hour workshop, your group will get personalized support in transitioning meetings and workshops to the online setting. Learn ways to engage participants through Zoom (or the platform of your choice) and apply these techniques to one of your own upcoming sessions. We cover: session openings, norms, energizers, full-group facilitation, breakout rooms, debriefs, tech techniques, and closings. We also create peer coaching time so that people can get support on a particular element that gets in the way of them feeling fully prepared to work online. You will end the workshop with new ideas for a particular session, a sense of how to use technical tools, and a feeling of increased stability and support in this difficult moment.

We've trained professors at Harvard, Stanford, NYU, Columbia, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, as well as facilitators from the Stanford Design Lab, Mobius Leadership, Bold Organizing, Partnership on AI, Organizing Corps 2020, and POWER Philadelphia.

"Springing into Online Pedagogy, offered by Aditi Parekh and Rosi Greenberg was exactly what I needed to gain momentum in taking our curriculum online. Their expertise was helpful and confidence inspiring, and it was heartwarming to collaborate with educators around the world as we all wrestle these new challenges. Aditi and Rosi did a great job of designing a learning experience that helped us consider high level design principles while at the same time learning tactical tricks. I recommend this course for anyone starting out in the journey of moving their course virtual, and also to anyone looking to improve their online content, delivery and connection with students."
